Reza Farahani

Hello!

I am a Univ.Ass. Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Distributed Systems Group (DSG), TU Wien, Austria, and a Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology (ITEC), University of Klagenfurt, Austria. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt, where I contributed to several CDG, FFG, and Horizon Europe research projects.

My research lies at the intersection of Distributed and Networked Systems, Edge-Cloud Computing, and Artificial Intelligence. I design intelligent orchestration systems that enable AI, data-intensive, and latency-sensitive applications to execute efficiently across the IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum. My work spans Large Language Models (LLMs), Edge AI, Agentic AI, Serverless Computing, Distributed Multimedia Systems, with an emphasis on performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

To validate these systems, I develop federated HPC–Edge–Cloud experimental testbeds and contribute to the design of next-generation distributed computing platforms through several European and Austrian research projects (check here). I am currently pursuing my Habilitation (Watch the initial habilitation lecture ▶ YouTube) at the University of Klagenfurt on Intelligent Distributed Service Orchestration across the IoT–Edge–Cloud Continuum, where I also completed my PhD.

Besides research, I enjoy teaching, supervising Bachelor, Master, and PhD students (check potential topics here) and collaborating with researchers and industry on the next generation of distributed AI systems. If our research interests align, I would be happy to discuss potential collaborations.
